Query on a default

Hi
I checked my clearscore account this morning and noticed I had a default from a company called Lowells. I called them and they said they had sent a number of letters out since 13th May 2016 (8 days ago). i hadnt received any letters but paid the amount in full.
The amount in full I had to pay was £229. Not a massive amount, what I'm wondering is, is that going to massively affect my ability to gain credit in the future? I wanted to buy a house this year and a car on finance too, but understand that a default stays on your account for 6 years.
Is a default of £229 looked at in the same way a default of £2000 would on a credit file?
Thanks

It will affect your ability to gain credit, its shows you didn't follow your agreement and are seen as a risk, I have had problems with defaults and I think its very harsh that it stays for 6 years.
As you have paid the amount, not a big amount either, it might be worth asking the company if they are willing to remove the default. Chances are slim but worth a shot.
I imagine that lowells are a debt collector, if they purchased the debt you would have to ask them but they may have been chasing cash for other company whoever they were, contact them.
Hope you sort it!0
