I've hit the 2k spend and been awarded my bonus nectar points, I now wish to cancel the card, OH got one now in his name now so using that account
Do I need to spend these points before I cancel my card, I don't want to lose them.

If the points have appeared in your Nectar account, then no - cancelling the card will have no effect.

I think that you'll be ok even if they haven't - Amex transfer accrued points prior to cancellation as normal, at least they do for the Starwood Preferred Guest card, so they told me when I cancelled it.

i am pretty sure, the duration is one month or 28 days once you have cancelled the card to then transfer the points before you will loose them. but once they are on your nectar card then they don't expire.
