CCJ set aside - what effect on my rating?

Hello,

I'm looking for a bit if advice, I have recently had the great news that a ccj that was on my credit file in error has been agreed by the courts to be set aside.
As I understand it, this means it won't be visible on my file when it is searched.
What I don't know is whether my score would be 'recalculated' based on all the other details except the ccj?
Or if my rating will stay as it is and require building back up?

Thanks in advance
John

Lenders don't use the credit score. They score you on your history and current status.
  • So removing the ccj could in theory remove me from the 'auto rejected' pile and into the 'possibly maybe' pile?

The credit scores used by lenders will include whatever is visible on your credit report plus the other information you give during an application and their own views about those things and desired traits in the customers that they seek.

If the CCJ is not on the credit report then they won't use it. Unless they ask a specific question about whether you've ever had a CCJ or similar, in which case you'll need to answer that honestly.

If this is your only CCJ then its removal should greatly improve your chances of getting credit and often the interest rates and other terms that you can get.

I suggest that you check that ALL the CRAs have removed the CCJ from your record, and if not then contact them with evidence that it has been cancelled.

Just watch the company doesn't re-apply
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

This is a possibility. If they do re-apply you would need to use the normal defence process.

  • The party that issued the ccj came to the agreement with my solicitor to have the judgment set aside. It was already satisfied 3 years ago, so there's no money left for them to re - issue it against, and seeing as it wasn't for me in the first place, I strongly suspect they won't bother.
The set aside ruling was only last week, and CRA'S are being notified by my solicitor, but it looks like they tend to update your rating once a month rather than as soon as they receive an update.

It should update 'live' on the system as soon as they hit the buttons so people looking at your file can see the very latest info, its just your report that doesn't get updated for a month
