Just a little question. On monday morning there was knock at door, opened to find meter reader man stood there. My dog was going nuts so had to sort him out before could let man in, which was fine but what has been slightly bothering me since is that iam with atlantic gas/electric (since january this year) and was with BG before them. What with the bad reports you here about n-power iam feeling a bit paranoid now that they have read my meters. N-power dont read meters for atlantic do they? Wish i had challenged the man now but cos of the dog i was preoccupied.

Could any atlantic customers tell me who read their meters? thanks. xx

I think it is just one company who reads the meters and then provides the figures to the relevent power supply company.

It would be a nightmare if every supplier sent out their own meter readers.

yes that's correct, the meter will be read by the company that own the meters in your area, not your supplier.

    Hi,

Meter Operators & Data Collectors do everything with the meters under contract from Supplier. Npower is only a supplier, however they do own MeterPlus and Asset & Energy Data (AED). These 2 companies are classed seperately for regulation though and cannot state they are from Npower.

If someone has called from Npower, don't let them in!!! They could be fraudulent as all these readers have ID with them and no they don't work for a supplier directly nor can they promote them in any way.

    Hi,

The best way to be sure is to ask for ID. You are with Atlantic, not Npower. This was probably a mistake by the agent that called so as long as all they did was take the reading and you were with them, no worries.

If you live in Yorkshire or regions near say Newcastle Upon Tyne, their companies operate in those areas so they may have told you that by mistake. They are branching out into other regions thesedays with these agents but they will tell you they are from A&ED or MeterPlus, not Npower as Npower is just the Supplier end of the business and has no authority to enter your property to read your meter.

I hope that makes sense. I don't want to worry you, if a guy ever says he's from say a supplier like Npower and has no ID, don't let them in as it's a sign that they are no famiiar with the security measures these companies use and may be trying to gain false entry.

Co Durham is one of their areas. If he was in a van, he would have been A&ED or MeterPlus. Those guys are fine.

It is a bit strange because his ID should reflect that. Maybe the ID said that on as say "a member of Npower companies" or something like that.

Ask them if ever unsure, they are used to it and will never question your right to check. Some suppliers will even set you up a password system with the meter readers so you know it's them.
