Sealing crack in old garden trough.

Have been given an old brown glazed trough for use as a planter. I thought of making a water feature out of it but then I noticed a fine crack running through one end. Is there a way to seal it to make sure any water doesn't seep out and if so what would be the best product? I thought about some sort of silicone sealant though I have some of that plumbing repair 'putty' that might work.

although if it is cracked, if it was frost that did it, you may be looking at the same thing happening each year....

Thanks - I think it's probably rough treatment. It was lying around on the farm opposite and I blagged it when they were having a tidy up. If it does end up leaking I'll just use it as a planter . But I already have 2 belfast sinks (from the same place) and I thought a water feature would be different and a nice project.

You could paint the inside with bitumen paint. It's commonly used to paint inside water tanks. However, it says it's not for potable water on my can, so I would check this out better if you're considering any fish.

If M-seal is available in your area, you could try that out.
