Maths question on averages

Oh don't fret, LX, you are far short of a being a wall-of-words merchant - no names, no pack-drill.

As we differ on the second question, I'll comment:
It seems to me that the OP really wants to know how he is doing and how much harder he needs to work to yield 60% - at least - of the total marks available. It's been easy to show that his current yield has been the 65% figure we both arrived at. As this has been achieved for just about one half of the total process - markwise - then the other half has to balance the 65% to achieve the 60% target - and that means 55%. Put another way "All other things being equal you're on course to achieve 70%, so don't ease off for the remainder of the modules".
Phew - what a lot of typing
Yeah no names but I do value her posts.
I'll go back to part two then...
Continuing from where I'd got to, OP you have 191.3 from the first 295 points.
There are 305 points still on offer.
To get an overall 60% mark you need 60% * 600 = 360points
360 - 191.3 = 168.7
168.7 / 305 = 55.3%
Which of course is the answer polymaff gave so much more succinctly
And I probably should put my red face on. I probably misread question 2 on the exam paper
I was trying to think about What is the lowest mark i can afford to get on any of the 6 modules to average 60.00% or above??Question 2) What is the lowest mark i need to get on all 6 modules to average 60.00% or above??
You can afford to "drop" 136 points in the remaining essays so if you manage to score 100% on the remaining essays for Modules 1,2 and 3 then you could score zero for the essays in module 5 and 6.
But it is impossible to get 100% on an essay; whereas 100% should be possible in a maths exam (provided you read the questions correctly)0
