mum and 5 yr old, Scotland to london/legoland?

OK hoping for some advice or tips.
I'm travelling down from Scotland to take my son to Legoland and the Natural History museum.
I'd planned to go down by train using family rail card (which I got a deal on here for) as opposed to driving do then.
I've been looking at hotels near legoland with the plan being at least 1 day in legoland and 1 day in London, ideally heading down for 3 days.
I'd really appreciate anyone suggesting some handy hotels that won't break the bank, or maybe some to avoid. Staying 1 adult and 1 child seems to offer a few options such as shared double or single room with cot etc.
going first week of lanarkshire holidays so hopefully not too busy yet 27th June week?
any advice or hints really appreciated

Not stayed myself (well, not since I was actually a student there in the '70's) but Imperial College rent out their student rooms in the summer - starting the week you are down and just round the corner from the Natural History Museum (the Beit Hall and Princes Gardens ones)

Legoland do an annual pre-schooler (5 years and under with 1 adult entry included) pass for £60 which is for Mon-Fri during school term time. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. This would work out cheaper than one days entry to the park.

Slough Premier Inn has some reasonable saver rates for the end of the week you mention £62 for 30/6, £55 for Fri 1/7. Kids eat breakfast for free and it is a buffet type one. Train or bus from there to Windsor. The train also goes from there into London.

For London there have been some good £40 deals for Fri, Sat and Sundays on Happy Mondays Ibis hotels if you are willing to take a chance and book last minute on the Monday before you go i.e. 27/6. The Hotel at Earls Court is not far from the NH museum was was £40 for this Friday and Sat on the offer thsi Monday gone. If you book the flexible rate with cancellation build in elsewhere just in case and cancel if you get a good deal via this offer.

Download the "Hotel Tonight" app, used to book hotels for the same night at discounted rates, you can also book up to a week in advance (and you can also book more than one night), again if you're willing to take the last minute risk.

Two hotels located between Legoland and the Natural History Museum, seems to come up regularly.

One is the St. Giles Hotel in Feltham. The train station is directly opposite. A direct train ride to Windsor, then a shuttle bus for Legoland. For the Natural History Museum, take the train the other direction towards London, change at Richmond Station, for the tube to South Kensington Station.

The other hotel, is the Clayton Hotel in Chiswick, more expensive, but a nicer hotel. Gunnersbury tube station is a few minutes walk along the high street, where you catch the tube to South Kensington Station for the museum, or for Legoland catch the same tube, but get off at Hammersmith, and you can catch a GreenLine bus from there to Windsor. Alternatively, Kew Bridge station is also a few minutes walk in the other direction, where you can catch a train to Feltham (again!), and then the direct train to Windsor.

Starting from where? Edin - London on East Coast main line will bring you in at King's Cross, which will, if you want to get to Legoland straight away, mean going cross-town to Paddington to link to Windsor.

Great advice. I hadn't thought of Feltham. Just had a quick look and the Travelodge in Feltham has some good rates £40 for 30/6 and £36 for 1/7. It looks like the train station is beside the hotel and a Wetherspoons for cheap breakfasts and a 24hr Asdas for picnic supplies for Legoland.

OP, I would advise you to get to Legoland before opening time as they open the ticket offices (if you are getting the annual pass you go to a window at the side) and the turnstiles open 15 minutes before hand. Run to the back of the park avoiding all the small rides on the way (don't wait for the hill train as they wait for it to fill up). Head for the Laser raiders as they have 2 hr queues later on. The L driver cars and boating HQ has big queus later so head for those next.

If the weather is nice don't forget swimwear and a towel for the water play area. Fairytale Brook beside there is usually quiet when the puppet show nearby is on. Also buy a couple of festival type disposable rain ponchos from the poundshop in case of rain (if it is wet the park is usually really quiet so good time to go) and for the water rides. If you can take food and drink with you to save time and money. We used to eat ours watching the stunt pirate show at the lake which was on about noon. There is a lot to do, so a couple of days woudl be better if you get the annual passes.

    l[/URL]?

If staying in Slough, I wouldn't get the train to Windsor. Legoland is about 2.5 miles out of Windsor, halfway to Ascot. The buses that go to Legoland from Windsor start off in Slough, so you may as well get on it at Slough and stay on till Legoland.

When I lived away from Slough and came back to visit, i'd stay at the Copthorne or Holiday Inn (Slough/Windor) both on the J6 M4 junction, handy to get on the road to Windsor if driving, but probably too far from the bus/train station for you (20 min walk)
