If, as you say, the last purchase was made in October 2001, provided that you have made no payments, since then, nor acknowledged the debt, in writing, then the 'debt' is almost certainly 'statute barred' now.
Have a look at the following link - it will explain exactly how the Limitation Act affects your 'obligations' towards this 'alleged debt' and there is a template letter that you can send to the DCA:
