How many houses did you view?

As many posters have already said, unless you have an unlimited budget and/or can build your own home to your own specifications, then you WILL have to compromise on some things.
Tbh why are you even viewing properties without off road parking if it is so important to you?
You are just wasting the vendors time. It takes a lot of time and effort to get a house ready for a viewing.
We had one viewer who said they loved our house but there wasn't enough parking! Erm, they'd have known that just from the sale particulars so why bother viewing?! :mad:Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

We viewed 5 or 6 houses.
We knew what was important to us, great location, great schools and a large driveway and a huge garden.
Those things we would not compromise on. Size of the house and style of house was not that important if all the above was met.0 -
Again my original post was simply asking how many properties you viewed, surely I'm better taking my time and finding out the type of properties I like and what I would be willing to compromise on. Rather than being told to not be picky, this is likely to be the largest purchase of my life, so of course I would like to get as many ticks in the boxes as possible for my budget.
Indeed, but by your own admission it's gone from consideration to procrastination.
There's a difference.0 -

as mentioned, we weren't aware wether there was access through the garden, it was a sparse advertisement and the agent we spoke to wasn't aware if there was or not and advised a booking as there was a lot of interest0 -

Sorry, you posted whilst I was still writing my post!
Perhaps you need to to write a list of your priorities. If number 1 is parking then only view properties that have parking. You are unlikely to get all of your "wants" boxes ticked.
We always said we HAD to have a garage. The house we are in now doesn't have a garage. However, we liked the house enough to compromise.
The house we are the process of buying has things I don't like too but overall it ticks most boxes.
You WILL know when you find the house you are willing to compromise on.
Good luck!Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

I do think you are overthinking things, but I can't talk 'cos I often do the same. But you need to recognise when your cutting your nose off despite your face. I think in these situations the more you think, the harder the decision is to make. I find in time my brain just sorts it out and makes the decision for me, if that makes sense. When house buying you always start off with a wish list, by the end of that process you can bet that list has changed - by necessity and compromise.
Try the parking there for a week idea, within a few days you should have your answer.
Good luck x0 -
I've not read everything, but a house without parking can have a driveway added surely?0

One thing i would say is i think people underplay how hard it is buying as a couple.
Whilst it does mean you have two pairs of eyes it also complicates things. Most couples ( They probably won't admit it! ) are not perfectly alligned as to what they expect from a property.0 -
First one (London flat) 8 I think. Second one (house half a mile from the flat) - 1, although we knew it was coming up and had admired the street for ages. Last time - 20 odd, but we bid on 4 before the one we actually got - outbid on three, discovered hidden issues on 3rd viewing and discussion with vendor who wasn't prepared to accept reduction, so we pulled out.
The compromise thing already mentioned is relevant - you'll have to compromise on something. We did in each of the ones we bought (and bid on)
Good luck - go with your gut instinct!0 -
As a FTB I viewed about 8 before buying my flat, which was in fact the first I viewed! The house my gf and I are going to purchase is the result of about 20 house viewings. Flats are much easier to buy, imo!0
