My daughter started claiming Universal credit in early march 2016 ..I April she needed dental treatment and check to see if she was entitled to free treatment , both by phone and on line ..when she visited the dentist they said they had never heard of U/C as a benefit ,My daughter subsequently took her award letter in on her next visit and the said the receptionist was new and still training , and ticked the appropriate box on the electronic claim form ...This week she received a letter stating that the dentist had accused her of obtaining free treatment by fraud saying she said she was on job seekers allowance she has now have added penalty charges and other costs and they now want nearly £200 and said they are building a case against her ..she has sent copies of her award letters in but she is so worried and distressed as she does not what she has done wrong . any advise will be appreciated

New regs were brought in about whether you are entitled to free dental treatment late 2015.

    Read this link:

    http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcosts/Pages/universal-credit.aspx

and see if your daughter qualifies.

If she does qualify then it was quite correct to tick the JSA box as most of the forms have not been up dated.

If she qualifies then she could copy the link and send with her evidence.

    Universal Credit

The Department for Work & Pensions are introducing Universal Credit (UC) - a single system of means-tested support for working-age people in and out of work. This will replace some existing means-tested benefits, including income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Housing Benefit.
During the early stages of UC, all those getting UC were automatically entitled to help with health costs, but now that numbers are increasing, revised arrangments have been put in place.
From 1 November 2015, in order to be entitled to full help with your health costs because you are receiving UC and you live in England or Scotland you must be:
    • (a) receiving UC, either as a single person or as a member of a couple, without the child element, the limited capability for work element or the limited capability for work or work related activity element and have no earned income or have earned income of £435.00 or less in the assessment period;
    • (b) receiving UC, either as a single person or as a member of a couple, where the UC award includes one or more of the child element, the limited capability for work element or the limited capability for work or work related activity element and have no earned income or have earned income of £935.00 or less in the assessment period; or
    • (c) a child or qualifying young person for whom a recipient referred to in sub-paragraph (b) is responsible.
If you claim UC as a couple, the earnings limit is an individual not combined limit. If any member of the couple is above the limit, that member of the couple will not qualify.
Your assessment period will run for a calendar month from the date of your claim for UC (which will be shown on your award notice), and between the same date each month after that.
The criteria above do not apply if you live in Wales. You will still be entitled to full help with your health costs if you receive and award of UC until 31 March 2016.
You should tick the box for Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance and show your UC award notice as evidence of entitlement. Further information will be issued in 2016.

you can apply for a hc1 form, and then maybe get a hc2 (free health cost form),

also on the hc1 there is a section for claiming for treatment already undergone, although i haven't done that before.

i would write the practice manager about the mistake if so, sorry i dunno if eligable but hopefully the above info should clarify,

you can click "order hc1 form" from below link (near to bottom of page), you send it off and then will either recieve a hc2 to provide to people (although not needed if on jsa / esa etc, as above)
