Expensive (Vichy, La Roche Posay) face moisturisers

Hi guys
My partner buys and uses (what I consider to be @ £30+ a pop-) expensive "day" face moisturisers. In an attempt to save money, I recommended she tried an emollient cream like Cetraben, after a Doc once told me "all moisturisers do the same job" and the dermatological ones do the job most efficiently.
She now uses Cetraben at night and says it works well, but what can't use that as a "day" cream underneath make-up.
What can I suggest as an alternative which doesn't break the bank? Surely day cream is just a thinned down, less greasy version of the above?
Many thanks in advance!

If she doesn't have problem skin she may well be able to use the cheaper moisturisers. Personally if I don't use La Roche Posay unscented moisturiser I get very blemished skin (though it doesn't cost anything like £30!!)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Seriously ... back off. Unless you're on the breadline let your DP decide her own moisturiser!!! She's already compromised on night cream for goodness sakes!1

Sorry, belfastgirl23 - I should have put a trigger warning in my post. We're trying to save for our first house. She is a fully consenting adult cis female to this money saving exercise - if it works for her skin.
But, seriously, thanks for the concern. Back to your safe space.
Any other feedback on the cheaper high street creams (Aldi, etc?) from ladies who use 'em?0 -

They work for some people, they don't work for others. I've tried a few different creams and you would be amazed at the difference they can make. They are NOT all the same.
In the long run it'll work out cheaper if she knows a cream that works and sticks with it, compared to buying a cheap one, not getting on with it getting another and another etc until she finds one she does get one with. It all adds up.
If she has one that works for her, why waste money buying loads of others that might not...0 -
Best budget cream I know of is this one:
http://www.bmstores.co.uk/products/nivea-soft-hand-and-body-cream-75ml-278416
It's for face, body and hands (Moneysaving or what?)
I still use some mid-range creams, but this one is the best when it comes to value for money
Also Wilko do their own brand of skincare, like http://www.wilko.com/travel-minis/skin-therapy-face-moisturiser-50ml/invt/03481310 -

If she is a fully consenting adult female to this money saving expert, then surely it should be she here asking advice?
Do a search, there's plenty of threads0 -
This works really well under makeup, in fact it works really well all the time

I've tried expensive ones, some weren't very good, the good ones were expensive then I found Amie Morning Dew Moisturiser. It's fab and left my face lovely and soft and it's only £4.95....hope this helps http://amieskincare.com/product/amie-morning-dew/ShazzaGray

Why not simply shop around online? Both Vichy and La Roche Posay day creams can be obtained for around a tenner. Goodness knows where she's shopping if she's paying £30 a pop.
It would be wise to keep in mind that you cannot dictate every penny she spends. That's only going to lead to issues further on and to be honest, you do sound a little controlling.0 -
Just because the spouse is asking the question doesn't make them controlling. Perhaps she doesn't have an account of her own. I suggest plenty of MSE alternatives to my DH (who doesn't post here - he enjoys saving money, but isn't interested in forums) and he doesn't mind one bit.
Anyway... if she only needs a light coverage foundation, she could consider using a tinted moisturiser or BB/CC cream instead of two separate products. I've been doing this for a few years now and got rid of my foundation. Just use a bit of concealer if some extra coverage is needed. Plenty of high street brands do BB creams for reasonable prices.
I'd also agree with the Amie products recommendation. I haven't used them for awhile as I moved onto a different brand (and now just use the BB cream as above) but they were lovely with good ingredients. They have a trial pack on their website of travel sizes of both moisturisers for a quid - not sure what postage is though. Otherwise you can get the full size for under £5 in Waitrose or online.0
