Segway Chargeback Woes... Help

Hi, I will try and explain this as briefly as I can, but its a long ongoing saga and I just do not know what to do next.

November 16 - purchased a Segway for an Xmas Present

Beginning December 16 - Segways started getting bad press, recalled etc etc. The company I purchased from admitted they were going through tests with Trading Standards.

Mid December 16 - Trading Standards had not signed off. I tried to contact company - phoning emailing and Direct Message (Facebook). They did not answer or respond in any way.

All social Media accounts were shut. Office was closed. No way of knowing if segway was safe to use.

I contacted my bank to start a chargeback process to recover the funds paid.

Now this is where it gets confusing!!
March 17 - I decided to switch bank accounts. 7 day Switch.
To be honest I had in my mind written off ever getting the chargeback seeing as it had been 3 months and it had slipped my mind when switching accounts.

March 17 - (MID SWITCH) Chargeback finally issued. However bounced straight back to the retailer as my account was closed. I had no idea of this happening.

April 17 - I receive an email from a complete different company to the supplier, saying they are in contact with the supplier and can I return the board.

I refuse saying not returning as I will be out £450

April 17 - various emails back and forth (with lots of wrong information saying I ordered 2 and to return 2) saying they had now passed trading standards.. (still not selling on their website so doubt that is true) etc etc.

May 17 - The other company emails saying they are a financial services company that offers credit to customers shopping online. That although I had paid in full in November, refund was issued in March 17. And now that I had the money I was to return the goods as their statement with me is now owing £450.

This was the first time I had heard about the chargeback Contacted old bank money not there, contacted new bank money not there. Both banks doing the best they can to help (so no issue with them).

Reply asking them to trace the payment. They do, keep saying its not been bounced back. Finally after a week of me saying it has. They respond saying : Our Payments Team have investigated the matter further and can now confirm that this refund payment was stopped before reaching your bank.

Finally They have the money. Not me. HOWEVER in the next sentance.

If you should decide to keep the goods, the statement XKDKHB9-1 will need to be paid in full.

And giving me a week to pay.

I don't have the money they do! Can they really keep chasing me for this??

I have a faulty board sitting in my cupboard and no chargeback. And a company chasing me for money I don't have. :(
I can't start a new chargeback I don't think as I no longer bank with who I made the payment with. So Ive resigned myself to the fact. But I would like these people to stop hassling me.

Any advice on what to do now?

Firstly, you need to return the goods before expecting a chargeback.

Secondly, you can request a chargeback even though you no longer have an account with the old bank.

Thirdly, there is generally a 120 day time limit for instigating a chargeback.

Finally, could you perhaps accept responsibility for the chargeback fail, and hence the mess you now find yourself in?

So when I contacted them asking to return the goods in December and was ignored time and time again. I should of just sent it back regardless?? To where?

They deleted their website!! They deleted all social media pages. Where was I supposed to return it to?

Anyway regardless of that. Yes my fault for forgetting about the chargeback and switching accounts. I will make sure never to buy faulty goods and switch bank accounts at the same time ever again.

Ive written off the money I don't expect to get it back. I want this company to stop chasing me for the money that they have!

    Thanks I think?

Just for clarification, presumably you don't mean an actual Segway, but one of the Chinese-made, battery-exploding 'hoverboards'?

You can still do a chargeback and switch accounts, the money would get redirected to your new account. There's a period of time allowed for payments to get redirected.

Like the poster above said are you sure you haven't bought a "Balance Board" because their has been no bad press about Segways and they have been around for a long time!.
£450 is VERY expensive for one of these considering that they have always been available for less than £200.

    Yes sorry a balance board.. swegway/hoverboard :)

No not a chinese made one, a UK one, hence why it was more expensive which was why I went for it originally but obviously they then seemed to close down over the issues.

I have managed to contact the company direct now and they HAVE been signed off by Trading standards. They are sending me a new charging unit which was where some of the issues lay.

I agree the chargeback should have been re-directed, both banks agreed that this should have happened too, but it seems not and there was an error somewhere. No-one seems to be able to find the money.

I am leasing with he company to hopefully resolve the issue.

    Thanks everyone for your advice.

I think you should amend your post title as you are denigrating a company brand which you have no relationship with. This is grossly unfair on Segway.

Don't get me wrong - I'm glad you have resolved your issue but Segway had nothing to do with this.

If we were to ask everyone to change their title to be 100% correct, you'd likely be asking 90% of posters to change it.

Its not even as if their title is criticising segway, its simply mentions the brand. Seems a bit like when people call the vacuum cleaner a hoover.

Not really, Segway is a specific product, it is not a brand of hoverboard.

90%? Nothing like that high a figure.
