Vegas car hire, we have CDW but do we need to upgrade, help please?

Hi I am going to Vegas for a short trip, we are all very excited and have booked a car from here through Autoeurope/Alamo and it comes with CDW included that appears to cover the car completely but I know from previous visits to other places they often offer all sorts of insurance upgrades at the time of pick up.

At the point it feels very daunting to decide what you really need and what you dont for fear of missing something out but I've been told that often any extras are a waste of money as the holiday insurance covers you.

I know in America when I went many years ago they offered loads, i.e. they were one of the worst places for adding and adding stuff.

In this case I have printed off our car hire voucher and it states what is not included, it says :-

"Insurance coverage for personal injuries to driver or
passengers. Optional coverage may be offered locally for an
additional fee."

My questions are should I bother with this insurance and so pay more for what may already be covered in our holiday insurance and is there any other upgrade they will offer that I maybe should have?

I feel the CDW is probably enough but I'm not sure.

You probably won't be covered for wheels, tyres, windscreen and keys. Depends how much it bothers you if you want to get a separate policy to cover those.

Otherwise, all inclusive car hire in the USA normally comes with no excess. As you've gone with Alamo, try pricing up via www.alamo.co.uk/brits to see if it's cheaper.

Vegas car hire was very had sell, nearly had me in tears with horror story about breakdowns, tried to make us upgrade, but when we collected the car we could choose anyone.

PAI should be declined, assuming you have travel insurance it's mostly duplication. Premium roadside covers things they exclude from insurance, what they think of as wear and tear items, like tyres, windscreen, and the vague term undercarriage. You really need to read all the small print if you worry, you might have a look at insurance4carhire.
I always decline PAI and Prem Roadside, I feel I've already saved enough to cover a tyre or a windscreen.
Have a good look at the car and make sure it's not got dings knocks or what ever you want to call them, and that the spare is in place. Most of the big operators use cameras now, so any dispute can be setled by camera images of the car leaving.

Dings & knocks don't matter because you have CDW. I never buy any more insurance, but then I've never had a problem in dozens of trips to The States.

That reminds me, we should start looking at car hire for our September trip. Any good deals lately? Have booked with Alamo and Dollar (TI) in the past. Might just try for Dollar at TI, as we're flying with BA, so that means we'll be having a drink or two on the plane maybe. Might just get the car for a full week, but intend not to use it for the whole time.

some people there drive like crazy, had a red light and braked slightly, the lady behind was on the phone and banged all the way back in the rental car, boot was completely bend over! the extra £50 for 2 weeks hire insurance well spent! in terms of recovery, check the conditions, we had this kind of insurance and I could not see through the back window, however, called road side cover and they told me as long as it drives I need to go and exchange it - but no questions asked!

what I found till now is you can`t have enough insurance in vegas!
