I have an old pc- Dell Dimension 4700- and it seems the fan works overtime these days.I've done all the dust clearing I could.
I have an aftermarket fan that has a 4 pin connector but that I had I'm my 5000 as the PSU had a built in connector for it but I cant see any options to instal it in the 4700.

Any ideas on how I can do this or advise on how I can add any fan to things cooler?

Thanks

you should have a cooler on top of cpu connected to mobo. ideally you should also have at least a couple of case fans. 1 x front of case (intake), 1 x top of case (exhaust) and 1 x at the rear of case (exhaust). are these all working oK?

if you need to add addition case fans and you haven't got case fan connectors on mobo you will need to connect to psu directly. if you don't have the right connecters you can buy adapters from ebay.

'If' the Dell Dimension 4700 was anything like the Dell Dimension 5000......
it was mostly a propriety non-industry-standard Dell only design and will have

Just one centrally mounted fan in the case drawing in air from the front and passing it over the CPU cooler fins a little way behind it before letting it naturally vent out via the back.

Some of the early Dells used industry-standard power supplies and some used special Dell units.
No idea about the motherboards as to whether they were also Dell specials or did they conform to industry standards of that time.

Mind you we are talking about a design from 2004 ish.

Adding 2 or 3 extra fans may be OTT for a standard Dell. You said you cleared dust but did you take the green heat sink cover off? That will give you access to the heatsink and case fan.

Might need to clean and re-paste the thermal on the cpu if it hasn't had any done for a good few years
