Central heating cover - external (communal) boiler?

Options
Hi all,

First time poster, so go easy on me :)

I'm in a shared ownership agreement for my flat, whereby I'm liable for maintenance and repair of everything internal and the housing association is responsible for external matters. So far so good.

I was looking to take out a HomeCare agreement for central heating cover in case anything goes wrong with the central heating / radiators / hot water tank etc (all internal of course) but having spoken to British Gas they advise I won't be able to sign up as the boiler is external - it sits in a separate secure building next to the block and supplies several flats.

Having now looked around, boiler cover seems to be a standard part of any cover agreements, which leaves me in limbo somewhat. The housing association have, inevitably, just pointed out that it's not their responsibility.

Does anyone have any experience of a situation such as this, or advice on what to do? I'm keen to avoid a hefty bill should something go pear-shaped!

Thanks
Daz
