Ok latest update: Last night about 8pm we fitted the new defrost heater, put all the panels back on etc, turned it on ... and it's been fine so far! No tripping of the electric. It's early days yet though so I'm not making any assumptions, it could be that we cleaned it up and that will keep it good for a while then it will go again - but hopefully not, hopefully all it needed was a new defrost heater. If so, our efforts, and those of the people on here who have helped us, will have saved us a lot of money! :):):)
