Joanne's dress - HELP!

  • Guys seriously, most of this is pretty negative and a bit contentious.

As I say, the dress is also in no way as described... Also if you do a quick google on this website you will see that we are far from the only people who have had such issues with them and they strike me as a band of crooks.

We're not fools - in fact we are both City lawyers - and it's a good job given some of these responses. Yes we did a silly thing in a short notice situation, but I posted on here to see whether anyone could offer any practical advice on what seemed to me like a fairly unresolvable situation. Instead I've had a lot of people telling me what we can't do and, with comments like, "what do you want from them exactly" (to comply with their contract and provide goods that are of good standard on the timeframe agreed?), rude and patronising responses.

To those of you who have tried to be helpful and friendly, thanks so much.

To the rest of you...seriously, get a grip.

Now that I see what happens when you go down the Internet wormhole I'll be deleting my account.

It's negative because that's the reality of your situation, and I'm not sure what it is you find contentious - this is the age of the internet, and it is incumbent upon consumers to do their research before buying to ensure they know what their rights are before handing over any money.

You've had truthful answers, you don't seem to like them. If you're a lawyer, you're in a great position to take them to the cleaners. Hope you have deep pockets.

Surely, in a short notice situation, ordering a dress from Singapore was a tad silly ? Or is it just me that thinks a trip to the nearest town would have been a better idea ?

In fairness, I think the perceived rudeness has been on both sides.
There is something called " due diligence" , and there were some fairly big clues that this site wasn't one of the best. For example, where it has a link to the "Molibe stie" ( mobile site) and grammar and syntax suggests an oversees company. You've been given correct advice and your errors pointed out. I can't see how that isn't helpful.

A lawyer that comes onto a internet forum to ask advice from strangers, who thinks that a company is bound by the laws of the country the customer is in and who throws the toys out of the pram when someone presents opposing views to their own?

Oh and not only that, a lawyer that actually refers to themselves as a lawyer rather than solicitor, barrister etc and who doesn't understand the term "joint and several liability".

Pull the other one love, its got bells on.

Thought I would preserve this before the toys get well and truly thrown out of the pram.

The last item I ordered that came from Hong Kong was my Meenova Dash Micro memory card reader for my phone.

Meenova's an American company, but their factory's in Hong Kong and that's where they ship orders from for customers based outside North America.

Their website was clear about the delivery time and where the order would be delivered from. In fact, they said 3-5 weeks and I got it in 20 days.

Meenova also advise about possible customs & import duty charges you may have (I checked with HMRC before I ordered from them).

I wonder if this Joanne's Dress company's website explains this sort of info? I've notice a lot of fashion sellers advertising on YouTube/Google Ads recently - a lot of them have odd names that sound like they're based in China (e.g. Romwe's one of these, I can't vouch for how good or bad they are, however).
