He's just had a quote to get it repaired. It's £96. Should I pay the full amount? Or ask him if I could try to find a replacement phone that's cheaper?

£96 for a 2 year old phone that he said he was considering replacing at some point anyway? I'm sure you could buy a second hand one cheaper.

I'd maybe suggest he decides what new phone he wants and you'll pay the first 2 months of the contract. Then he has a much better phone and no one is wasting money repairing a phone which may well be replaced soon anyway, and which may well develop a different fault at some point if it's 2 years old.

If it's 2 years old surely his contract is up anyway? So he would be getting a new phone fairly soon... unless of course he was planning to go onto a sim only contract which is cheaper.

Why dont you have a quick look and see the prices of second hand phones?

I would go halves. His fault for plugging the phone in where it could be easily tripped over, which is exactly what happened.

He told you to be careful of the wire, while watching you drink and get sozzled, lol. It wasn't going to end well, was it :o

Can you afford to pay £96 for the new screen? If it was your phone and he'd broken it what would you do?

At first I thought this was one of those MSE money moral dilemmas!

Me too! Wouldn't be surprised to see it pop up as one in the future though.

Pay up, that's not too bad anyway.

If angel549 is reasonably well off it's not too bad, but if she's on the breadline it's a lot of money. I know I couldn't stump up £96 just like that.

Its not too bad in terms of phone repair costs I meant, an iPhone would be more!

The person with the broken phone might not be well off either, it still needs fixing.
