How to fix kitchen doors in newbuild

Hi
I bought a new build earlier this year and Symphony were the kitchen suppliers. I thought I'd picked one of the best quality doors from the options available - Alto Gloss Mussel 18mm MDF gloss painted and lacquered.

I've been in 3 weeks and have 4 damaged doors - either chipped or scratched.

The builder said they won't replace all of them as not all of the faults were noticed when I did the initial snagging inspection. I'm now worrying that the doors won't live upto normal wear and tear and I can't afford to replace every door when it gets chipped / scratched. I'm very careful and live on my own, so can't understand how the doors have got damaged so quickly.

Question is, would it be possible to get these type of doors repaired, and if so who does this sort of thing please? Any recommendations and advice much appreciated

Are the scratches/chips on base or wall units?

Could you actually live with scratches/chips on the doors?

    Any photos?

You've been living there three weeks, and have only just noticed pre-existing scratches/chips? If so, then they can't be that serious, so live with them.

Or they've got scratched and chipped over the three weeks you've been there? If so, then they're not the builder's responsibility.

Fixing them is usually a matter of taking the old ones off with a screwdriver and screwing new ones on.

then adjusting them to fit with the adjustment screws.

Any doors that are damaged after 2 weeks are either rubbish doors, or you are not looking after them properly.
Since you don't seem to have had this problem with other doors in the past, I can assume you are not completely stupid and your doors are not really worth having.

I would replace them with a different make or brand.
Even wickes doors are reasonable enough. and I think Ikea sells doors separately.

These may be useful, different models but same company

I am sure there are more.., I just googled 'Symphony kitchen problems'. Looking at them, you might just be better off replacing the doors or the entire kitchen cupboards depending on the condition of the carcasses.

Or you could take a bundle of them with you and complain to sales (if they are still open) mentioning 'not fit for purpose' loudly. I'm afraid people often don't realise how inexpensive those expensive add ons really are - for the builder.

Hi, thanks everyone for your replies. The scratches / chips are on the base units. I didn't closely inspect the doors when I moved in as it never occurred to me that they could be faulty.

I think the lacquer on the doors is non existent, and that they are not fit for purpose.

I am going to email the builder and ask them to come and have a look, so will see what their response is. I've never had this issue with any kitchens before. I wish I could replace all of the doors with a different brand, but it would cost a fortune.

I would be kicking up hell and mention it to all my neighbours to check the condition of their units as it doesn't sound right to me.

    Good luck!
