I had one of these through the post the other day, for a car I traded in back in March. What I've done is fill in the form with the dealer's details, and send it back with a photocopy of the receipt they gave me, which states that I gave them the V5. I don't remember about the yellow slip as it was such a long time ago, but if there was something to send to the DVLA, I'd have sent it. I like where it says if you no longer own the car you still have to pay the fine. Sod that.0

Well I've just got off the phone with the DVLA, having paid the £40 penalty. Apparently, even if you send them the yellow slip, it's up to you to chase them up about it, and unless they send you a letter confirming you're no longer responsible for the vehicle, you have to pay the fine. Alternatively, they could just do their job and process the thing in the first place. Another example of the government giving themselves a licence to print money by targeting normal, law-abiding responsible people. You do everything you're supposed to, keep everything above board, and they sting you anyway. I bet a lot of those yellow slips go missing. And you don't have a leg to stand on because it's a government department and if they decide you owe them money, they'll get you one way or another. I reckon it's extortion, and I'll be writing to my MP to say how disgusted I am. What a bunch of dirty, thieving, robbing, evil b******s.0
