iTunes duplicate songs

Evening.

Until recently there was an option under the 'view' menu to show duplicate songs. I updated iTunes the other day and this seems to have gone!



Does anyone know if it's just my PC being daft or has this been removed by Apple?

On mine it's under File, then down to Library, which opens up a new list which includes Show Duplicate Items.

i've got iTunes verson 12.3.3.17 and 'show duplicate items' is still there.
are you on a newer version?

I'll check the version tomorrow and come back. The option isn't under 'file' either.

Yes, Apple has moved the option from the View menu to the File > Library menu:


"Find duplicates

You can find every instance of a song by the same artist anywhere in your iTunes library. For example, the same song could appear on the artist’s album and on a movie soundtrack.
You can also search for exact duplicates, in which the song, artist, album, and version are all the same (if, for example, you inadvertently imported the song twice).
Select an item and do one of the following:

• Find every instance of a song by the same artist from any album in your library: Choose File > Library > Show Duplicate Items.
• Find exact duplicates: Hold down the Shift key and choose File > Library > Show Exact Duplicate Items.

To see all items again, choose File > Library > Show All Items."

Yes - it's there under File > Library. Many thanks, I was just looking at File. I'm also running version 12.4.0.119.

Now it's getting odd!

After finding the 'duplicate songs' option (and using it) I changed views again. Then I looked for the same option a second time and it was gone.



I closed down iTunes, had a cup of tea, and opened it again - and the option was back.



Now I know about this weirdness I'll remember next time.

Select File > Library > Show All Items and the "Show Duplicate Items" option will re-appear the next time you open the File > Library menu.

Does that just mean the Duplicate Items view had become default for that session? If not then why would they remove the option from the list without having to click on Show All to get it back? (That would be a stupid UI move).
