I have not had an ESA support assessment - I have been claiming contribution based since January 2014 - I also get full rate PIP awarded until 2020 and have a mobility car. I am 62 years old. My question is this: is it because they are so behind with assessments or could it be because I have been given long term ESA support?
I have heard so many stories of people just having their money stopped part way through their PIP award (long before it is due to be reassessed) for no reason, it is very worrying. I am not complaining because they have not reassessed (long may it continue) but it does seem strange.

Your best bet is to contact DWP and ask what is happening about your ESA claim. You should have received a decision notice if you had been put into the Support Group (or WRAG) and your money would have gone up. Some assessments are taking a long time but over a year is exceptional!

It is currently DWP practice to start reassessing a PIP claim a full year before it is due to end.:(

Be aware that if in the WRAG contribution-based ESA will only be paid for 365 days.

If in the Support Group CB based ESa it can be paid indefinitely.

If you haven't had a WCA and the award is stopped because you have received it for 365 days, then see your CAB and challenge this decision. As the DWP have not assessed if you should be in the Support Group, then ending your claim is arguably a breach of thier procedures .
