Thanks sportsarb for your help on this. I was getting lost trying to work out what would happen.0

Yep.
If your son is on 5 years then essentially ESA(C) no longer applies if he is in WRAG. Incidentally, he should probably claim income related regardless, if entitled to income related when in the support group there is entitlement to enhanced disability premium which brings the award to £125.05.
The claimant is entitled to be paid for 365 days outside of the Support Group (this does not include the assessment period if the claimant went directly into the Support Group, even at appeal). If fuf's son has not previously had any time in the WRAG then they have 12 months grace before being means-tested.
If they have an income low enough to be entitled to income-related ESA they can get a 'top up'. As mentioned up thread, the ESA3 is the correct form to assess this.0 -

Before he has the medical assessment, it is worth being aware of the criteria

If placed in the WRAG (and his condition has not improved) he should consider an appeal:

His local CAB may be able to help with an appeal.Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.0
