Anyone fancy starting a petition about big businesses' use of the CRAs?

Hello,
I'm new in these parts so forgive me if this has already been covered....
There seems to be a lot of posts which are all on a similar theme, ie big businesses' placing incorrect and unjustified adverse markers on consumers' credit files either due to incompetence/ poor admin (and then refusing to remove these) or using them to leverage the payment or unfair or unjustified charges.
The appeal system seems to be lengthy and loaded against the consumer in many respects. Given the reporting of arrears and defaults has such a huge impact surely the system should err on the side of caution rather than the free for all it seems to be now where any lender can slap a notice on and the individual then has a lengthy fight to get it sorted. I understand the need and desire to share information between lenders so that they can make informed decisions about someone's credit worthiness but some of these examples here have absolutely nothing to do with and the data they are therefore passing to the CRAs to hold is a breach of the DPA (something that I know the ICO can already investigate and adjudicate on).
I just wonder if there are any fines or other consequences for companies who misuse /misreport/mislead in respect of credit files?
Anyone up for a petition? Has this already been done?
