Hi Everyone
First time post, be nice!
A friend of mine is on PIP, and her husband is down as her main carer.
Her husband has recently been seriously injured in an accident, I suggested that he should claim for PIP, he may never work again,
The're concerned that if he claims for PIP, they wont be able to receive any payment as 'they cant be each others caerers'?
I have tried to phone DWP but I cant never get through, can any one help or point me to someone who can.
Thanks

In SOME circumstances, a disabled couple CAN be each others carers. So long as their caring duties do not coincide with what they are claiming they cannot physically do.
So,i would guess that it is POSSIBLE...although i don't see how a couple can both claim carers for each other yet both say they are so disabled that they cannot work.0 -

If the husband is still performing the carers hours he can claim both carers allowance and PIP. Having PIP does not exclude your from receiving carers allowance if you fulfil the criteria of minimum hours.
As has been said some situations it is possible for both husband and wife to claim carers as long as the carers criteria are met.0 -

Is the husband still giving a minimum of 35 hours a week care? Does he fulfil the criteria for PIP, including the timescales?0 -

People can work full-time and still receive PIP.0 -
The first thing to do is for the husband to make a claim for PIP and see if he is awarded it.
If/when he is awarded it then they should both go to CAB and ask for a benefit check up.
Much depends on what other benefits they claim/will claim as Carer's Allowance may affect these benefits so they need to make sure that they maximize their entitlement.0
