Asda Credit Card

I applied for the Asda Credit Card on MSE's recommendation, when it arrived, on the letter it states interest @ 1.8% is applied from date of purchase, which obliterates any 0.5% cashback at the end of the month!!! I have cut the card in two and sent it back!!!

Well, that's very nice for you but I think you have completely misunderstood how credit cards work. You get up to 50 days interest free with Asda but if you don't pay off the balance IN FULL by the payment due date you will be charged 1.8% from date of purchase.

Probably for the best you cut the card up - have a responsible adult help you with your finances from now on.

You won't pay any interest if you pay the full statement balance each month - that's the way credit cards work. The stated percentage is what you'll be charged if you DON'T pay in full, but you should always be paying in full in order to take advantage of any cashback awards ( well, the MSE thing is to always pay in full anyway, whatever is or isn't on offer in the way of rewards ).

Cutting the card was probably a good idea as you have no idea how credit cards worked. Next time you apply for a card, actually READ the terms and conditions. I have no doubt ASDA would have explained how the payment process works/

Is it too late to get the sellotape out?
