Greetings
My son is starting a new job in Cambridge and the following weekend it is is his Birthday
We are going up to see him and was wondering if there were any stand out Pub Lunch venues
Not really bothered about price but not looking for Toby Carvery type places (with all due respect)
Good honest food with a good atmosphere
Thanks in anticipation ...

I was in Cambridge for a meeting a couple of weeks ago and we had lunch at the The Castle Inn, in Castle St .....very good ( for a pub-grub style menu), and busy.

It's been a few years since I lived there but there are plenty of nice pubs around:
The Anchor http://www.anchorcambridge.com/
Pickerel [better for beer than food] http://www.taylor-walker.co.uk/pub/pickerel-cambridge/c3602/
The Eagle http://www.eagle-cambridge.co.uk/
Old Spring http://www.theoldspring.co.uk/
Makes me want to head back for a visit!"I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by."0 -
There's no shortage of good pub lunches in Cambridge. A few ideas if you like good beer as well as food:
http://pintshop.co.uk/ - London-ish prices but food, beer and service are excellent
http://www.cambscuisine.com/cambridge-chop-house/ - two branches in the city centre. More of a restaurant but they also do very good beer
http://www.grainandhopstore-cambridge.co.uk/ - recently renovated with a good beer and food selection
http://www.thecambridgebrewhouse.com/ - one of my favourite for beer but I have never eaten there. The same team run two other pubs in town.0 -
City Centre Cambridge or slightly further out?
City Centre -
I second the Pint Shop if you want meat! Not sure veggies would be well catered for. Gin drinkers will be though!
I also second The Cambridge Brew House, especially if you like homebrewed real ales. (This would be my ultimate choice - quirky furniture, nice atmosphere, mixture of dining/drinking areas, be sure to book though!). Edit: good honest food with a good atmosphere - this is it!
Other good choices would be: -
The Free Press - back street, lovely quirky old style place,
The Clarendon Arms - ditto but a bit fancier,
The Kingston Arms - a bit further than town centre, Mill Road area,
The Old Bicycle Shop, Regent St. - newly opened, looks fun.
Further out of town Trumpington and Grantchester have various places all within short taxi ride of town. The Red Lion at Grantchester is good.If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.0
