Vent - Caxton FX card

I had a caxton fx card. A couple of years ago it was expiring and I asked if I get a new one, or should I spend out the first card. I was told the balance would merge, so I got a new card.

When the new card arrived, my online account showed two balances, one for either card (the first one by then had expired). I asked if I could have them merged, and was told there's no need, the first amount can still be accessed.

Now the second card is expiring so I want to spend out, I thought I'd give it to the red cross as a donation. I totaled up the two amounts and tried to spend it. You guessed it, declined.

I asked Caxton, they said the balances cannot be merged. I can still access the first, but it will cost 1.50 in charges to have the amount send to a debit card.

Well, being a slightly anal person, I have every single email from two years ago, so I laid them out chronologically, with a screenshot showing two balances, formally complained and asked the amounts be merged.

Then there was a back and forth for about three emails, where they answered questions I wasn't asking, i.e. they weren't reading my emails but just sending out stock responses.

In the last email, I again explained it is a formal complaint, I gave the deadline for a final answer and if it's not met, the email exchange and screenshot form a part of the complaint at the ombudsman. To avoid this they must merge the amounts as promised, and undertake to warn people of fees in advanced when they are directly asked questions (rather than just neglect to mention (lying by omission).

The bad news. I won. Yesterday, they merged the amounts. This is irritating for two reasons. One, I would definitely have won as I have saved their contradicting emails. Two, they won't undertake to clearly point out fees. They just told me that fees are explained in the terms and conditions (thus it's OK to neglect to mention them even if asked direct questions).

Sorry this is a bit long. The only good thing that comes out of it is my five quid to the red cross might buy some poor refugee half a breakfast some place. Ugh.

Anyway, who needs a travel card nowadays? I use the Halifax one and it's 100% free. Good riddance Caxton.

A shame, really, as I found their cards quite good.

Yesterday I tried to give the last fiver to the red cross, but it was declined. I asked them, there's a charge of 1.50 if spending online with a British company (?).

Finally, I found a charity in the UK, allowing the paypal ripoff of dynamic currency conversion, I managed to give them six dollars. Caxton and keep my small change, and good riddence.
