Speed... I mean saftey camera fine!

I was caught out by a saftey camera. I was doing about 50-52mph when I first hit the lines then slowed to around 44mph by the time I was halfway through them, it was a 40mph zone. How long does it take for a fixed camera speeding fine to come through? Also I'm on a CBT licence which is a learners licence for a motorcycle. How many points can I expect and how much is the fine going to be?

I take it, it flashed aye?
The letter should be through within 14days. If you get charged, it'll be 3 points and £60 fine. The fact you're on L's doesn't make any difference0 -
I didn't notice the flash but it was fairly bright this morning when it happened, plus i did have my tinted visor down so i may have missed it. Or when you get flashed do you know you been flashed?0

IMO you'd notice the flash. I've never been flashed myself (there are no fixed cameras in the highlands) but on my travels accross the uk have seen others flashed and it is pretty obivous.
Today marks the end of 14days since I thought I'd been done by some specs cameras down on the A77, looks like I'm in the clear from that :beer:0 -
Thats what I was thinking. I've never been flashed but I have seen other people who have been and I'd have thought they would have noticed it.
So after 14days, if I haven't recieved the letter, I'm in the clear?! Somebody had told once that it was 6weeks and another person said it was 8weeks.
Thank you for the info scbk! I hope your in the clear!0 -
I have no particular problem with speed cameras per se. However, don't get me started on the subject of inappropriately located speed cameras!
In the meantime, may I be permitted the observation that the next 14 days could be profitably spent rethinking your driving? The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Wasn't it Motor Cycle news that featured a letter to send in reply to a speed camera notice? Along the lines of if you were asked who was riding the bike at the time -before you were charged- then this couldn't be used in evidence, so they couldn't charge you!! Understood it worked for many, but wording important..... perhaps you can search for it?0

I hope that was a road legal tint, as most aren't0 -
I too have strong opinions on mobile speed camera locations. I would rather see more traffic cops on the roads making the roads a safer place than a man sat behind a camera catching the 99.5% within speed limit driver on the off chance. Safety camera partnerships always display the locations of their vehicles - check out www.policecamera.co.uk to check some locations of where they are.0

It was called a PACE statement and argued that asking you to incriminate yourself by admitting to being the driver was in breach of your right to silence. Since no caution is served, the statement should not be admissable in court. However, it seems that it was ruled against in the European courts, so it no longer works0
