Broken multipoint door lock.

It seems that the lock on our back door is broken. It's an old aluminium door, with multipoint lock. The main latch and top roller seem to be unlocking fine, but the lower part of the door won't budge. Would I be better off getting a locksmith or double glazing repairman out to fix it? I'm hoping the hinges can be depinned to get the door off, I'm dreading having to have the entire thing ripped out.

Does the handle push all the way down to the open position? If not it might be that the door needs adjusting at the hinges. Providing you don't require an emergency call out give a few companies a call and ask for a ball park figure

Handle goes to fully open position. It's also very floppy once unlocked.

Hmm... I have exactly the same problem with a double-glazed window. Something inside has snapped, so although the main bolt and top bolt ("roller"?) retract, the one at the bottom doesn't, making it impossible to open the window.

I vaguely wondered whether a really strong magnet would be able to slide the broken bolt up so the window can open and then I can access the screws and mechanisms... :-/

We got a door repairman out in the end, and the bottom 2 rollers on the mechanism were broken. He managed to open the door and removed the 2 lower catches so the door would close and lock just using the upper rollers as a quick fix, and has fitted a new Fuhr mechanism this morning. £180, :mad:

It depends on what the mechanism is made of, and even then it'd need to be a veeeery strong magnet.
