Why declare medical conditions for travel insurance?

    If you're just going to France, I wouldn't bother with insurance, if your household policy covers you for theft etc. You'll be covered for at least 70% of your medical costs (100% in an emergency) and nobody in their right mind would want to be airlifted back to the NHS when they could be treated in a French hospital!

    Advising someone to self insure when they have a debilitating condition like fibromyalgia is probably one of the worst pieces of advice I've read on a travel forum.

    Hardly more debilitating than very severe COPD, which my late husband suffered from during the period we were visiting France on a regular basis.

    Given the cover you receive with the EHIC (and the low cost of treatment in France even if you did need to contribute to your costs) it's hardly a question of self insuring anyway, although there are obviously people like you who don't understand the way it works.:D

    Woops - well spotted. I think I probably meant "no more", and yes it can sometimes be less as there is more competition for annual policies.
