            Will need a lot more info to give any answers;
roll or planks?
any defining features in the room?0 -
            All things being equal I go length ways, less cutting etc.0

            What shape is the room? If it's practically square and large it doesn't matter, if it's an odd shape it can make all the difference what way you lay it. Also windows - front and back will make a difference etc.0

            Length or width way?
more info. what are you laying on where is the main window/source of light in the room
as a general rule when i did our whole house, id lay length ways facing the main source of light ie window. If you lay width way against a window its not so bad but you can see all the joins.
If your laying on floorboards its better to lay the opposite way to which way the floorboards are runningEven a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.0 -
            Area is 30 ft by 15 ft
Laying on new extension (concrete floor) and existing (floorboards width ways).
Light source is at garden end.

            Perpendicular to the light.
So the lines draw your eyes towards the light source.0 -
