    All things being equal I go length ways, less cutting etc.

    What shape is the room? If it's practically square and large it doesn't matter, if it's an odd shape it can make all the difference what way you lay it. Also windows - front and back will make a difference etc.

    as a general rule when i did our whole house, id lay length ways facing the main source of light ie window. If you lay width way against a window its not so bad but you can see all the joins.

    If your laying on floorboards its better to lay the opposite way to which way the floorboards are running

    Area is 30 ft by 15 ft
    Laying on new extension (concrete floor) and existing (floorboards width ways).

    Light source is at garden end.

    Perpendicular to the light.

    So the lines draw your eyes towards the light source.
