Energy companies never used to do credit checks either, but now they do. It's in their Ts and Cs. It does not surprise me water companies are getting involved as well.

But the thing to remember here is that there are no T&Cs for water companies. You are not in a contract with them. You have not agreed to anything, nor have you signed anything.

so in my ever on going drama with Anglian Water, I have raised a complaint to the FOS & ico due to breach of data protection laws being performed by anglian water.

they were both quite interested how a company can place historic credit history on my self even if I do not hold or have never agreed to hold an account with them regardless of regulation. I am on pretty new ground here with the complaint the FOS were not to sure how this works out etc. I may have go to the Ombudsman with it.

I have asked anglian water to remove the entries as the information they stated is incorrect.

i've raised this with experian also so we'll wait and see.

this is the most interesting snippet that anglian water stated they had the right to report on my credit file with was for data protection.

    Liability

I see we added your name to the account on 2 September 2013 when you called and made a payment by debit card, and due to Data Protection we added your name so you would be able to deal with the account
