Gumtree Disaster

Last wednesday I sold something on Gum-tree and the buyer wanted to pay via bank transfer and did so, once payment was received I was to let them know and they would confirm the postal address.
So the money went in and I messaged to confirm , no reply, tried again and again and then messaged gum-tree who said my account was blocked due to a posting problem- not related to this sale.
Apparently this means I cannot receive messages or send them, I have spoken to customer agents 3 times and its a nightmare- I keep saying i don't care about being blocked but want to post the item or refund the person- they don't care that I have no way to contact the buyer and say I can refund the transfer at bank- contacted bank who say its a no-no.
I am at a loss - the guy on gumtree support basically said I need to wait for the person to open a case- I have the person's name but its a very common one and no way to find them.
I am a genuine seller terrified I will be in trouble when i'm trying to do the right thing.

Who will you be in trouble with? The internet police?

If only gumtree had a warning on every page saying its for face to face sales only. Maybe if people used the site in the way it was intended there would be less problems around.

Why not set up a new profile and contact him through that?

I cannot do that as he's not a seller and yes I made a mistake

But then the vent forum would be dead. People everywhere wouldn't be shouting "SCAM" on every post, and all of the (and I'm being kind here) idiots who signed up to Amazon Prime but vehemently deny it wouldn't have a multi-page thread to meet other like minded amoeba.
