Barclaycard / MKDP / Robinson Way

Hi All,

I apologise for the long winded thread but I want to get as much information across as possible.

I have had a Barclaycard for about 10 years, I still have a Barclaycard in my wallet which is well under it's pretty generous credit limit. A few years back (2007/8) when I moved house I had a lot of problems changing the address on my card (when I say I mean a lot problems, I called countless times and visited 3 Barclays branches) during this time I was late on a few payments as my bank account changed and I didn't update the direct debit (before the days of auto transfer) and they kept mailing my old address over 6 months after I had moved (and I had presumed changed the address on file).

I should have been pro active here but we had just moved house, had a baby and I was travelling a lot so it slipped my mind. Anyway after I did the running round in 2009, (yes it took 9 months to get my account address updated successfully but I was paying regularly so this wasn't a problem) then in 2010 I got a letter from a collection agency saying I owed about £5000 to Barclaycard. This was a surprise as I was actively paying and I raised it with the agency (I forget who it was) and they said they would contact Barclaycard.

I forgot about it as I presumed it was sorted and then fast forward 18 months later and I get a letter saying that another agency had now bought my debt and I owed them. I explained the history of moving address and they asked was I contesting the money owed and I said yes as I still had a Barclaycard, they claimed that the card was not originally a Barclaycard but it had been purchased by Barclaycard (they later changed this to say it MIGHT have been purchased by Barclaycard) I checked my accounts and had no other unpaid accounts (I was a bit of a card tart and had maybe 6 accounts open at one point but mostly paid up). I checked with Experian and I had no Barclaycard account that was owing. So I went back to the agency and said please send me statements. This took weeks and I had to pay for the privilege (not much to be fair). These showed monies owed but just an existing balance and charges no new expenditure. I explained that I didn't believe this account was mine for 2 reasons, I had no records of it and I still had an active Barclaycard and if I had another account with Barclaycard which had been converted from another company then surely Barclaycard would have frozen my other account (which was for a while my primary credit card and used for most business expenses).

They went away and then about 2.5 years ago I got a letter from MKDP (as well as another company who were also MKDP pretending to be someone else) saying they owned my debt and a default was posted on my credit file. I went through the same process asking them to explain why my regular Barclaycard was not frozen and if it was from another account could they please provide evidence of the expenditure because to the best of my knowledge I had zero balance on these older cards that I was no longer using (I learnt from this and closed all but 2 of my credit card accounts at this time). Again I paid for statements and again they supplied them but none of them went far enough back to show a geographical transaction that I could recognise (there was 1 web based transaction for a company I can find nothing about, which was the last transaction from 2009).

I asked if I was claiming fraud and that I needed to report that to Barclaycard which I did (as well as asking all the same questions to which they answered they can't tell me as I am no longer their customer!). So it went away with MKDP saying they would discuss it with BarclayCard and sending me updates by post saying the same thing. I contacted them about 6 months ago asking for an update as I now live abroad (all my mail is forwarded) and I am thinking about returning and perhaps buying another property, they just said they had no news.

Then 4 months ago I get a letter from Robinson Way saying they now owned the debt and I needed to contact them to organise a repayment plan. To be fair to them they had bought out MKDP so I had to go through it all again and they have since sent me 2 letters to say they are still discussing it with Barclaycard.

If you are still with me then I appreciate it :)
My issue now is that while I was confident I would get this sorted, I haven't, I have paid of almost all debt that I have and I am in a good place my (meaningless) credit report is very poor because of this situation and I feel I am banking my head against a brick wall.

What can I do to get this cleared off my credit report and stop Robinson Way chasing me (which to be fair they are not pro actively doing) but it will affect me when I plan to return in a few months as I would like to lease a car and get another mortgage. any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Andy

    Is it really there?

Tell/write them to get lost unless they demonstrate real proofs that it is your debt and its origin.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will certainly give it a try. I have been polite and patient so far but it's just taken too long!
