Help with laptop speakers

My laptop speakers have suddenly stopped working. I did a Google search and have done everything they said to do on the page that came up. I have checked that the mute is not on and I do have sound if I plug in earphones.

Is there anything else I can try? I have a Toshiba Satellite which is about 4 years old and apart from this is working well.

Thanks.

My Toshiba laptop speakers stopped - and so did everything else. Very poor build quality. If you've rebooted and you're sure the volume is turned up FOR THE CORRECT PLAYBACK devices then options are
    1. check if there's volume on the headphone socket; you could plug in some cheap speakers
    2. System Restore to BEFORE the speakers stopped working just to rule out a user and/or software error
    3. final resort - dig out a hardware manual for the laptop (easy to find online) and start taking it to bits (if you like doing that sort of thing)

    WHOAH cowboy!!!

before this, go to control panel > sound> ensure the speakers are the default device, highlight them and click Properties...

..this will give you more set-up and test options to get them back on....

/this can be a right royal pain to do, but it does work.... the pertinent question is what causes it to happen and I've yet to see a valid reason.....

only then do you start pulling things apart ;):)
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
