W10 Dual Boot

Within a couple of recent threads it has been suggested that MS are trying to prevent the dual boot option by overwriting BIOS. Has anybody successfully install W10 and another O/S as a dual boot option?

I'm not trying to do it but suggested to someone (in a Photoshop forum) that dual booting was the way to go in order to have the good things of W10 and be able to run older software that won't run under W10 or in compatibility mode.

lots of new machines have uefi bios(s) those can be set to load windows boot files , hence the singular os

multiboot is easy on pre uefi settups

Below are some links to guides for 1. Dual boot of Windows 10 with another Windows OS and probably more useful 2. Windows 10 dual booted with a linux system like Ubuntu or Linux Mint.

In which case my advice was probably OK as the PC in question would undoubtedly be pre uefi.

Thanks for posting the links, interesting reading. Option 1 video that was embedded was for dual booting onto a Mac but I then searched and found similar advice for a PC.

Option 2 would be no good in this instance as the person I was advising already has a PC with W7 and wanted to upgrade to W10 but couldn't run some older software.

Utter rubbish, and not even possible for legacy BIOS, AFAIK. UEFI BIOS is certainly a bit different, and can be controlled by the OS, but Microsoft are NOT trying to stop people from dual booting.

I was not suggesting they are, what I wrote was I had read it on a couple of recent threads - annoyingly, I cannot now find them!!

    What's the difficulty in multi-booting using a UEFI-based motherboard? (I haven't used UEFI myself.)

I don't know, I haven't tried. I just read that MS were trying to prevent dual- or multi-boot but thanks to you and almillar, it seems to be possible.

A picture tells a thousand words... except when it doesn't. :p

What's the significance of that screenshot?
