And don't forget that's it's now the law for females to have pink accessories and a million fluffy toys in the car!
Good shout.
Any time i've bought a car privately it always gets a full service and depending on the mileage, a timing belt change so i have comfort knowing it's done and not relying on a stranger's word.
I'd argue the fluffy toys point though!!!
Keen photographer with sales in the UK and abroad.
Willing to offer advice on camera equipment and photography if i can!0 -
I don't wish to sound patronising, but think it'd help if you have a friend, who already owns a car, to advise you BEFORE you commit yourself to buy!
If they have a garage that services their car, maybe they'd be prepared to check your proposed purchase out, for you - maybe £50-£70 well spent!!

So far my list is:
· register it
· pay road tax
· work out when the mot is due
· insure it
· breakdown cover
· get my parking permit £75 a year
Register it - been long enough since i bought a car but i'm sure its down to the person selling it to send off the new owner details so you shouldn't need to register it... i think
road tax** - look at the tax disc, if its got some left you're laughing. If not get it insured and then taxed.
Work out when the MOT is due** - look at the MOT form you got with it and see when it expires.
Insure it - you've already got the details
Breakdown - check on here for best one and any discounts yada yada etc etc
Parking permit - apply for one. £75 a year might sound expensive but it's just over £6 a month which is bl**dy cheap. You're lucky if you can get 24 hours for £6 never mind a month.
** the big question!! what are you doing buying a car without asking when the TAX and MOT runs out??0 -

Apart from going, it looks really pretty and are you sure it's a good deal? I'm not really able to offer any real (or imagined) sensible questions on the purchase.
thanks for the advice guys, it may seem elementary, but the whole owning of a car is a new world for me and I really don't know anything, not even to pretend to fake it."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0
