What to do with new router ??

I bought a router the other day, from the orange store.
It was on the discounted section. I managed to name my own price, as it had no price on it and they couldn't be bothered to find it.

I only got it because of the discount....I don't need it

Now I've got it, I feel obliged to make something with it.........but what ??

I didn't get a booklet with it, just a load of router bits and a guide.
I also got this small pencil like measuring tool, the end twists and pushes a rod down, it has a guage on it  what the heck is that

I thought I was clued up on tools.....but I'm not sure about this gadget.

Anyway, does anyone know of any resource sites where I can get some idea of how to use these router bits, or maybe some place that has projects I can try ??

Unless you want to cut a groove in something (say a drawer side), or turn a bit of square edged timber (0.5 x 1 or 0.5 x 2 or 1 x 4 or similar) into picture framing, architrave or skirting board, then you've probably bought something you'll never use.

I went to my local college and found a short course on using mine. I made a linen box with dovetail edges. Have used it to make doors for cupboards with nice moulded edges.
    Not bad for a girlie.
But really - get to know your tool and what it can do

I bought a small cordless circular saw for that job. Fitted it with a very thin blade, so it's perfect for cutting boards with.

    Good idea though :T

plenty of projects and advice here
    have a look here

As someone else has mentioned they are great for hinges, locks , letterboxes and worktops(in fact invaluable for worktops)
Don't try to take too deep a cut out in one pass , great for rebating timber - have just recently made a picture frame using a router table.

not really a great deal you can "make " with a router on it's own .
it's more for finishing off existing projects.
I also got this small pencil like measuring tool, the end twists and pushes a rod down, it has a guage on it  what the heck is that

This sounds like a fine depth gauge, it should fit into the router to help set the depth of the "plunge"
