How to paint bathroom flaking wall

I have a bathroom that has flaking paint and I'm thinking of painting with pva before painting with bathroom paint....is this a good idea?

No, I don't think that's a good idea... it will prevent the paint from bonding to the surface.0

Definitely don't PVA! give the walls and good sand and scrape down to get rid of any loose paint, you could then use something like zinsser peel stop to stabilise the rest.0

Following - as I have a similar problem - after having gutted the bathroom recently in my case (including new plaster).0

You need to scrape off all the loose bits, then put about an inch of filler round all the islands of paint. Allow to dry, and then feather with medium grit sandpaper, so that they don't show through the new paint.
