                    Hi there
I would be really grateful for any advice.
I have a 2013 ford fiesta 1.0 ecoboost. Over this 3 year period I have driven over 55k miles. I get the car serviced after every 10,000 as per the recommended service schedule. I have changed the tyres but haven’t had any other work needed.
At my last service the mechanic recommended new front brake discs and pads and new shock absorbers. He has quoted me £840 for a full service and the work done (a full service is £280, the brakes and pads are £250, shocks £310), I wondered whether this was a reasonable quote for this work?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Danielle

            Main dealer or independent?
The brakes (discs and pads) seem reasonable, I'm not sure why you'd need new shocks - have you been hitting the sleeping policeman a bit too hard?0 -
            & whats the Eco 3 pot like?0

May be me, but sounds incredibly expensive: You have used the term 'mechanic' rather than 'dealer', and if these aren't main dealer prices, they're extortionate.
Pads & discs should be £70 - £100, shock absorbers are £65 each, a 3 year service at Ford main dealer menu priced servicing is £209. Add three hours' labour for fitting brakes & shocks, I'd suggest that £500 - £600 would be nearer the mark. I don't see why you should need discs on a three year old car unless the pads are worn out to a dangerous level.0 -
Many thanks for your replies. This is a independent garage, and i did think the price was eye wateringly high! I have had it serviced there before and he seems really thorough, but i can't really afford to pay this much over the odds!
I will shop around as you have all suggested and get some other quotes.
I don't think i drive over the sleeping policeman too shockingly ;-)
Many thanks

Have you tried sutton auto factors based in nottingham, They have a buy online website and have always been much much cheaper than anyone else i've seen. They do OEM and Aftermarket I'd highly recommend
Nice try, but I smell :spam:.
OP hasn't suggested they're intending to buy and fit parts themselves, nor given any indication this is an option - so why you'd be advertising a parts supplier I can't fathom.0 -

Ford, who originally made the car, recommend servicing every 12,500 miles (20,000 km) or every 12 months whichever is sooner.
As already indicated, even Ford main dealers do not charge £280 for a main service of your type of vehicle.
The most expensive I can find is AllenFord with dealerships close to London (Upminster, Romford, etc) and in the Midlands (Coventry, Rugby, etc)
They will charge £179 for a 50k mile service, £199 for a 62.5k mile service, or £239 for a 6th service (75k miles).
Even if you add an MOT which a 3yr old car will now require, they will do that for an additional £30.
Depending on your location, you may find cheaper prices than this at a Ford Main Dealership elsewhere. (perhaps up to about 10% cheaper)
Next year you car would be eligible for the Ford Blue Service, which my local Ford dealer charges £125 for a minor service or £195 for a major service (every 3 years/37.5k miles) your your vehicle.
Whichever type of service you have, you will also be eligible for 12 months free AA roadside protection. They will also do an MOT as part of any service for £30 (although this MOT offer may not be available from all Ford Dealers)
As for extra work you require, my local Ford dealer would do the front brakes & discs for £175, and the front shocks for £259
(you may find your local Ford dealer charges slightly differently)
But these are menu prices, and I know my dealer is open to a bit of haggling, especially if you are having a lot of work done.
The above prices all include VAT (where applicable)
I can see no excuse for a non-franchised dealership charging anywhere near this level.0 -

To be fair, I use Sutton Auto factors all the time, and can confirm they are good. Set of ferodo brake discs cost me £24 for my 2010 punto.0 -

Yes, they may well be very good, but the very random advertisement on a thread where there was no indication given that parts supply was an issue for discussion does smell a bit 'off'.0 -

Wow - judging much! I always find it easier to price the parts or supply to garage myself, Always seems to bring the cost down for me.... Well if that's what you get when trying to help....0
