Ladder suggestion

I am looking for a ladder that doesn't cost arm and a leg but at the same time not too cheap as I will risking my life

I got one from screwfix for £70 which can be folded and straightened etc

The problem is, it is not tall enough and i need something to be able to go all the way to roof ( 2 story house, 1930s)

What ladder do you recommand? Do you guys normally wear a specific shoe for health and saftey etc?

Some time ago I bought this one :

It's not the cheapest, but I've been pleased with it so far, it's very sturdy.

It terms of shoes, it's just a case of common sense. Don't wear flip-flops. Something with a sturdy sole is useful, if you've got thin-soled trainers or the like then it can get uncomfortable standing for any length of time on a rung. I've got some old safety workboots that I've had for years, with steel toecaps and steel reinforced sole, which are ideal - but it'd be a bit overkill to buy some just for climbing a ladder. Just a sturdy pair of shoes or boots with a decent amount of grip will be fine for DIY use.

i got my trusty aluminium extending ladder for a tenner off gumtree.

I say trusty, but i don't know how old it is, and it didn;t come with any guarantees...

Is there a difference in terms of quality between double and triple extension?

Triple seems to be 50% more expensive

    Or is it portability

Portability really. In simple terms, if you want a 30' ladder, you can have 2 15' sections or 3 10' sections - the latter being easier to store in your garage ( it's not an exact correlation because you lose a bit due to the overlap on each section, but that's the principle ). But in general the longer ladders will be 3 sections. There's also the bonus that if you only need the height of 2 sections for a particular job, you can leave one section behind, and only have to cart the 2 sections to wherever you're using them. It adds a bit of flexibility.

Do you have space to store it if it is double?

If climbing ladders and doing roof work, choose footwear that gives adequate ankle support. One of the most common ladder related injuries is a broken ankle caused by not taking enough care when stepping off the bottom 2 rungs of a ladder or steps.

to go onto the roof you will need something like

    http://www.laddersalesdirect.co.uk/lyte-single-section-roof-ladder.html?gclid=COLbuuXI3swCFQccGwod-AwEzQ

but bear in mind that to do this safely your main ladder must pass the gutter by several feet to enable you to climb on and off both ladders ......

    be careful....
