Are there any SQL experts out there who can advise regarding deleting or amending an entry in a table that is in sql?
The people who support my software are insistant that they have to dial in to do this whereas my dial up is out of action. This leaves me a little stuck.
Can it be done???????????
Thanks for reading

Hmm there is a lot of "depends"... first off, what version of SQL are we talking about ? Microsoft or Oracle or MySQL or... you get the idea"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter

Aha, Good question! Any more like that so I can have a look into it?

Oops, meant to reply, hit the wrong button haha. I can only really help you with Microsoft or possibly MySQL (with a lot of help from a book) as Ive never used other versions of SQL. Is it installed on a server or workstation ? Have a look in your program files to see if you have Microsoft SQL Server in the listings."There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter

If it's OK with you it will have to be a tomorrow thing, hopefully you will still be around?

Queries are quite easy in SQL, do you know anything about them at all?
Basically you just tell it the fields you are interested in, the table(s) that they are in and away you go. Then to put new data into a table you use INSERT and to change existing data it would be UPDATE
If you specified exactly what it was you were looking to do then I could maybe help you a bit.
If you do a quick search in google you will find a lot of tutorials with examples:

I dont want to appear obtuse, but you have given the impression that your TechTeam want you to use your dial-up connection in order to access your pc/server. Correct me if i'm wrong.
When I have dealt with TechSupport in the past, they always says they want to dial-in, when all they actually want is to access your server over any connection - preferably broadband.
If you have a fixed ip address then they should have no trouble "dialling in" once you are online once you tell them the address.
If you use a dynamic connection, then you will have to e-mail them the address once you are online.
I have had a little to do with SQL databases in the past, and can assure you they are not to be messed with, and your Support are probably being straight with you.
Hope this helps.I know nothing - really!!0 -
Our new software update seems to have decided to attach an item to every product code we use. The software house have said it may be because the item id is 0 (which it is). In my ignorance I am thinking that if I get into the table and change the item id to lets say 1 then the connection will stop happening. Am I oversimplyfying it?0

My server doesnt want to connect to the internet for some reason! I can run zetafax off a modem but if i use the same modem to access the internet it is not connecting to anything? This leaves me with a predicament.0

Is the item id the primary key?
If their update is causing you to have problems then I wouldn't be worrying about your dial up, I would have them out to your office as it is their fault. The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it.0 -
As it is a condition that we have remote access they have no problem letting me stew. We did have remote access but the server crashed and i have been unable to set this side of the system up.0
