So I had a phonecall today that people were in and out the house so I left work and drove over there introduced myself and I was right they were arsey with me immediately. They refused to give me a spare key so I got the locks changed there and then and gave them one. It took a lot of talking but I managed to chill them out finally and get the medals. Anyone I offered to get rid of the caravan on the drive and take some stuff to the charity shop. So hopefully house should be cleared quickly and then we can decide what to do with it. I'm just glad I managed to find my Aunt before she died so I got to say goodbye no thanks to them x

Unless they empty the house quickly, there is a risk they take the things of value and leave the rest. I suggest that you may need to take the steps suggested by others to write to them about the remaining items, even if you need to use the care home or funeral director to forward mail.

I would ensure that when the house is empty you change the locks again.

It is sad when families fall out like this.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

Well, yes, but they aren't really "family" to the OP.

The long-deceased great-uncle was blood. Once he died, the blood tie ended.

The OP and the 'family' are:

    My grandmother's brother's wife's sister's children....
With the sex of the people being variables.

Do you often hang out with your grandmother's brother's wife's sister's family? I know I don't.... couldn't even name them!

Since none of the contents are the OPs (now she's taken the medals), and they are all part of the estate of the deceased, whats wrong with that? The OP appears content to get rid of what is left at their own cost.

Yes I will change the locks again once they have finished at the house. I'm not too fussed about disposing of the rest if there is anything - my sister has been there helping them too. It's nice that they now realise we are not total !!!!!! as that is the assumption the previously made lol.

At least I can think Vera will be looking down at everyone getting on. And although she wasn't blood and she was a stubborn unpredictable old lady she was kind to me and my sisters when we were small and I do have lots of good memories.
