Help with Amazon Fire 6 please

Hi.
Hope someone can help please.
My son has an Amazon kindle fire 6 and this morning something happened to it and we cannot get past a log in screen.

It is asking him to verify his account. His name is listed there and its asking for a password. Tried all the usual ones for other things, nothing worked. Tried inputting a wrong password numerous times to hopefully be asked to reset the tablet, it doesn't give a reset option.

It just keeps saying unable to verify and he cannot use it.

I have tried to get on settings to see if there is a factory reset we can do but cannot get on anything without this password.
Help, is there any way of getting around this please. He has been using this perfectly happily since christmas and now it has a problem.

Hi.
Thanks for your reply. Yes it is logged into wifi but it seems that the problem is with the unlock screen.
When you swipe to open the screen and try to go onto something it comes up with login to Amazon. It has my sons name and asks for a password, thats the bit we cannot get past.
