Heads I win, tails you lose.
The way this is supposed to work is you invest other people's money. You take a cut when it goes up, and then say we beat the index when it goes down.
I wonder if there is a patron saint of fund managers who came up with this wheeze. If it was China, they would have built a temple to this character, and incense would burn daily.0 -
A quick look at Wikipedia suggests there are two patron saints of bankers. One is St Matthew the Apostle, but as he is quite overworked you may prefer a more obscure character called Bernardine of Feltre, who was known for various good works including encouraging people to burn pornography and playing cards, the founding of credit unions, and bashing the Jews. A sort of medieval Positive Money type, in other words.
The general principle of claiming that everything good that happens is down to you and everything bad that happens is down to some malevolent, unaccountable, external force is of course as old as religion itself. As old as claiming that shaking your stick with a shrunken goat's head on the end brings the rains forth, and when the rains do not come forth it is because the tribe has shown insufficient devotion to your scary stick.0 -

Don't think Martin would be in favour of bashing the Jews.0 -
I was in Vietnam in September 2014 and had a fantastic time. The weather was about right - not too hot to move about but not a constant monsoon either. As with anywhere is SE Asia you just have to be ready to change your plans at short notice if there is a sudden downpour (usually this involves running to the nearest bar!)
Here's some weather info: http://www.travelfish.org/weather/vietnam
As PompeyPete says, if you only have 2 weeks then try not to do too much as you'll only end up tired, frustrated and disappointed. if you are flying into HCMC then maybe stick to the south of the country and save the north for another time.0 -

This message seems curiously out of place, but is a nice change of theme. I approve.0 -

Actually I think that he stopped acting years ago, although he does of course still take the fee and appear in movies.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

I just wondered if anyone here uses the strategy of holding shares for really short periods of time until a profit is made then sells up and moved onto the next one?
I started last week with a small pot that I am not to afraid to lose with the hope of building it up as quick as possible.
I know your supposed to invest in shares for the long game with the aim of 10 years quite adequate but I want something more hands on and well... Exciting I guess?
I am now spending all my spare time ( while she watches the soaps) researching and reading up on the markets and individual companies and sectors looking for anything that may be promising.
So basically I was just wondering if anyone else does this and have they had any luck or is it just a waste of time and resources?
So far I am up £120 from a starting pot of £1300 in a week, hopefully this will continue.
Thanks in advance for any comments
I reckon almost all the 'make money quickly' strategies are likely to have the same chance of 'losing money quickly', there are no short cuts to either hard work or wise investments that grow over time. I didn't make my money quickly, and now that I have it, I want to hang on to it.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

That suggests he started acting at some point.
Bill and ted onwards would suggest this assertion may not be true, though his finest moment was the Shakespeare of course.0
