New York hotel/subway

For those who know NY like their home town!

I am looking at a hotel in Queens, minutes walk from 23rd Steet Ely Av station. We will be arriving at JFK. Am I reading the subway map correctly that we could take the airtrain to the end of the line and then get on the E subway and 30 or so minutes later, we're there? Is it correct that it is then only another 30 minutes to Manhattan?

If so, it seems an ideal location for us.

You are reading it correctly, though you may have an old subway map as the station is now called Court Sq / 23rd St. You take the AirTrain to Jamaica LIRR (there are 2 "ends of the line" from the terminals, the other is Howard Beach). From Jamaica LIRR you change to take the E train from Sutphin Blvd station to Court Sq, it's around 25 mins. From Court Sq to Manhattan is only 5 or so mins before you are at 5th Ave / 53rd St station.

Yup - this is more or less exactly what we did when arriving at JFK and staying in Queens. Very easy and straightforward. :)

Yes the New York subway is really easy -but bear in mind you'll have some steps to lug your cases up.

In fact it is so easy and quick we once had a stop of several hours at JFK before flying on to the west coast and we hoped on a train into Manhattan for lunch rather than hang around at the airport.

That's brilliant thank you. Very pleased with the saving on the hotel and yet so simple!
