E7/stored heat / collective fix - helping a friend
I'm trying to help a friend switch energy tariff having moved in to a new flat. At home I have a simple gas/electric setup, however theirs is more complex...
They have storage heaters, on a current tariff with the incumbant SSE (Standard SuperDeal EverGreen) which lists THREE rates
- Day Energy (18.49)
- Night Energy (9.79)
- Stored heat energy (8.21)
Additionally the meter is a quite complex one which can list the usage in each of these (and more) seperately. The heater circuit seems to be switched automatically.
The meter is marked with flexiheat superdeal. the meter is horstmann, and it's a radio telemeter series k.
When I use the comparison tool and look at economy 7 tariffs these only list two rates (which I'm familiar with) rather than three
Is it the case that if they were to switch, their stored heat would get charged the same as night rate? Not a problem since it's cheaper than both the night & stored heat energy listed?
Interested specifically in the current EDF collective
A final question.. small flat, one person, not much kit except hot water, I'd guess 70% E7? fair guess. they have no figures as it's new so this is a punt!
Thanks!

Any ideas? I know the EDF tariff is only available for a short time.
When I switched my own energy to the british gas collective last year it was nice to see the company engage in these forums to offer help. Are EDF doing the same? If so where? What goes around - comes around

With a "complex meter" set up you will not be able to use the switching sites and the collective switches will not be available. You are limited to who will actually supply and need to find the best deal over the phone. The only way round this is to revert to a standard E7 system which will involve some wiring and meter changes at your cost.0

Those prices are frankly ridiculous.
I am in the Midlands and have just moved to the BG collective tariff paying 8.79p/kWh (18.9p DSC) for a 'normal' 24/7 supply. Albeit it is dual fuel.
There are several electric only tariffs where 24/7 tariffs are less than 10p/kWh.0 -
Oh I know - I'm on the last BG collective fix at 8.73 +VAT :-)
Thanks for the clarification. Ahhh. how annoying... I'll have to get them to phone aroundWhat goes around - comes around

So followup question. I've done a little reading and understand a little more about the boost etc, and also why E7 may not be such a good idea
Who else apart from SSE might offer compatibility with "super heat/flexideal" systems? What goes around - comes around

I believe only E.On, SSE and NPower will supply some of these tariffs on a national basis plus your regional supplier if not one of those.0

If you really want to help your friend, please tell them not to attempt switching supplier with their current metering arrangement as attempts to do so invariably end in tears.0
