Sound problem on Home Cinema

I've got a 2 year old LG Smart TV and at the time also bought a LG Home Cinema.
I use a Humax set top box for Free Sat.

All worked well sound wise until a few weeks ago when I started to only get sound from the two front stereo speakers with the front center, two rear and the sub woofer remaining soundless.

Can't understand why this is happening because all the speakers work when I tune to Channel 5 but don't work with any other SD or HD channel.

Anyone got an idea how I could fix this problem ??

Strange problem - all 5 speakers used to work, but now only work sometimes. I assume you mean Channel 5 HD. They seem to broadcast a lot in 5.1 - that might explain why you get the 5 speakers on that channel.
So that leads me to believe that you're watching 2.1 content on the rest of the channels (very little is broadcast in full 5.1). That makes me think you've accidentally set a mode on your home cinema (model number) - like setting it simply to 'stereo' rather than 'Pro Logic 2 Movie' or something. Most modes like this take the 2 channels and throw them round the 5 speakers.
To test - record Jools Holland - it's in 5.1 and should get the 5 speakers going.

    Thanks for that.
The Home Cinema is model LG 3D Blu-Ray BH6620P
The sound used to come out of all 5 speakers no matter which channel I used but now only Ch 5 HD as you say but no other HD channel.
Last night I watched a DVD, Kill Shot based on an Elmore Leonard book, which had all the 5 channels working.

Jools Holland??? Is he still around?:)

I think you need to press the 'sound effect' button on the remote - if this has been pressed accidentally and you never usually use it, you could have knocked it into simple 'stereo'. Have a play with all the effects it goes through to see if you can get it back to sounding how it did.
There's an 'optical' button on the remote - have you tried pressing it just in case?

Yeah, I've tried the 'Optical' button but it doesn't do anything that isn't done using the ( sorry can't remember the exact name but it shows which source you want to use HDMI 1, 2 or 3 etc and also lets you choose Optical sound, TV sound etc ) I'm now away from my tv on holiday in the Costa Brava so can't check the exact details.
I'll try your suggestions in a couple of weeks.
    Thanks.

Sounds like the amp has been put into direct mode.

which is where it outputs the sounds to the channels the incoming sound is in.

so if it receives 2 channel sound (stereo) it outputs it to 2 channels.
or if it receives 5.1 sound it will output to 5.1.

you need to switch it to some processing mode, like Dolby ProLogic 2, that will upmix the stereo signal into surround

Enjoy the holiday! Cycrow's instructions are also helpful, hopefully that's the problem.

Back from holiday which was great.

So tried your suggestion of the 'sound effect' button.
Think there was six alternatives and maybe 4 or 5 gave me sound from all the 6 speakers.
So thanks very much for your suggestion.
