Who replace the electric meter box?

I can't see how a box can be fitted over equipment without disconnecting it (or completely destroying the box)
In many cases, the box doesn't have a back and is simply fitted over the meter and fixed directly onto the wall.
Of the ones that come with a backboard, may of these are of the design were the main box can be removed from the back.
This is the last one I fitted (gas meter)

and after removing a couple of internal clips, it simply lifts up and away from the meter and a new box can be simply dropped back into place. I had to make a couple of small slots for the gas pipes but this was simple enough to do.0 -

Either way, you are not entitled to remove supports etc. from the DNO's equipment. As I said, any Electrician will replace the door for you (and the box if necessary). That doesn't mean DNO involvement won't necessarily be needed.
My outside meter housing has a metal bracket fixed to the wall and the meter is attached to this. The white plastic box slots into two holes at the top, then fixes to 2 holes at the bottom.
It's a VERY common set up/design. Perhaps the reason you can't see it is because people don't feel the need to call a sparks to do a simple DIY job!0 -

We do it differently on the mainland, the guys are right,
But mine's an older unit and would have to be broken away to replace.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

It's not a simple DIY job. All of the pirelli boxes here do not have a removeable back. They are made in Killarney to ESB spec. and are the predominant ones available on both sides of the border.
It's a simple diy job for most to screw a box front to a wall. If that's beyond you there's always people to help.0 -

That is all beside the point though.0 -

Just because one particular make or specification of enclosure can't be changed easily doesn't mean that they must all be the same.
The ones that I have changed were extremely easy for anyone with even basic DIY skills to do the job.0 -
Seems it may just that side of the river that makes things difficult!0
